The history of Entwined has began 15 years ago... from a simple encounter.Marco
and Lorenzo had been attending the same high school,
when they met first… the next step was fast and easy, led by a common interests
of those two guys: music. Marco joined (as singer) the band
formed by Lorenzo (at that time keyboards player) and some
classmates of him. The group’s name was "Sun's Sons"
(later on changed in "Buckshots 'n' Gillyflowers"),
and the style was definitely demential… as you can easily guess from the latter
band’s name. In spite of the poverty of the means and technique, the group
succeeded in obtaining a small niche of fans. However it appeared clear that
this experience could not have continued, above all because of the fact that
the group members had different interests and musical aims.
2. The Morphosys Experience…
Anyways playing demential music, Marco and Lorenzo
had had a great experience, they had enjoyed a very good time and improved
their musical skills… however after that they lost sight of each other for
some years. Lorenzo (in the meanwhile become a guitar player)
then has formed a group (named "Geko") that alternately
has been playing grunge and punk songs (covers by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green
Day), with rock classics (Jonny B. Goode) and original songs. Marco
at the same time on the contrary has begun to study piano, and created its
soloist project, about electronic and ambient music, that is still going on.
During the summer 1998, Marco and Lorenzo
met again, and since Geko had been scattered, they talked
about a new common plan, which has gone in a more complex direction: the progressive
rock. Then the "Morphosys" experience was born,
with Lorenzo as guitar player and Marco as
synthesizers guy. A common friend, Fabiano (great bass and
guitar player and great progressive rock fan, ex-member of Dissilio
and Wyxmer), turned out to be the ideal companion for Marco
and Lorenzo. The Morphosys had succeeded
in publishing two demos (a live one and an "in studio" one) and
in making one gig, before they broke up definitively, because of the fucking
job/study commitments of members.
3.The Entwined project needed a Scapegoat…
From that break-up a lot of time has passed, but Marco and
Fabiano have never really stopped thinking of forming a new
band, with the aim to create "emotional music". However, unfortunately
this idea has remained unexpressed. Then during the summer 2002, Marco,
Lorenzo and Fabiano (with other dudes...
and a girl, Barbara!) met again, at the restaurant. In this
occasion (probably after many bottles of good wine…) they decided to recreate
and rename Morphosys, led by other musical styles, looking
for a less pretentious and more direct one. They thought of "gothic
metal", but contaminated by electronic music
and progressive influences. They decided to use a female
voice (just like Lacuna Coil), and Barbara
(which means savage…) proved she was the best choice for that band. After
the first rehearsals, they understood it was necessary to find a second singer,
in order to render "Scapegoat" (the first name
of the band) definitively original. Serena (guess the meaning…)
demonstrated to have the ideal voice to sing harmoniously together with Barbara.
Then the band found a very inspired "art director" and friend: Cristiano;
he is not only a very good sound engineer but also a poet so that he collaborates
with the band in writing songs too.
The first songs had Fabiano hitting the drumsticks on the
drums, waiting for a "full time" drummer. Moreover it was also necessary
a bass player. After many ads, finally, Scapegoat found the
missing pieces: Mario for the bass guitar, and Davide
for the drums. Then thank to the energy coming from the two new members joining
the one of the primitive core, the band's sound has got a well precise identity,
which is well reflected by the distinctive style of the songs.
4. And now...
Then the band has been renamed "Entwined" (a clear homage to Lacuna Coil). Davide left the band, because of multiple commitments with other bands (Good luck bro!!!). Thus a new drummer joined the band: Simone (a.k.a "Ozzy") Bagnolesi, former member of Divenire. Oh man!!!!! He is very very very powerful and technical, you gotta trust us on this!!! Thank to his natural talent, the band has started writing new and exciting songs… until the show-time has finally come for Entwined, with the first edition of the musical contest "Aspettando Sonorika" where we went, we played and WE WON IT!!! As a part of the prize the band got the right and the pleasure to open the live date of Mistonocivo in Montespertoli (during the "Sonorika Festival 2004"), and also a performance at the "Marea Festival 2004" in Fucecchio. In July 2004 the band recorded the first self-produced demo CD, simply titled "Stay Entwined" (containing three songs: Anathema, Cold Light and Engraving on the Wall), with the cover painting by Cristiano and the computer-art by Duccio. Fabiano and Marco have mixed and worked on the post-production of the tracks. In September 2004 Entwined participated in the semifinal act of "Bart Contest" in Casole d'Elsa, so just…
